Growing up in a reality where the United States is an empire, in a reality where the Western world dominates, in a reality where white and male have the authority, The Throne is a constructed piece of fiction placing myself on the throne. Questioning who has the right to sit in the highest seat of authority as well as a critique of who is actually sitting in these positions, The Throne is an image of empowerment and a cry for a more progressive future.
The Throne was made during the Hilary Clinton vs Trump elections of 2016 while Ryu was living in St. Louis and was exhibited first in 2017 during Trump’s reign.
